Born in Vienna, Austria in 1964, Karolos Chanikian graduated from the National Technical University of Athens in 1989 with a diploma in Architecture. In 1992 he received his Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), receiving the “best student” award from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). While being in the U.S. he was employed by Andropogon Associates, in their office in Phila-delphia and Peter Walker and Partners in San Francisco. At the same time he taught design courses in the departments of Landscape Architecture at the Graduate School of Fine Arts at UPENN and Berkeley University of California. After returning to Athens in 1997, he taught design courses at AKTO College until the year 2000 and Landscape Architectural design at the University of Patras until 2011.
